Thiru Veezhinathar Kovil - Thiruveezhimizhalai Temple
How to reach the temple :
If you are starting from Kumbakonam, you have to travel on Tiruvarur road till Naachiyar Kovil. From there, you have to reach Thenkarai and from therem you can reach Thiruveezhimizhalai temple. It is found in Kudavaasal, Tiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalam in Chozha Naadu, South of River Cauvery.
Arulmighu Veezhinathar Temple is one of the oldest Shiva Sthalam found in Thiruveezhimizhalai. This is the 61st Paadal Petra Sthalam and 3rd among the Saivite temple to get more number of Thevara Pathigams.
Thirunavukarasar, Sambandar and Sundarar have sung Pathigam on the Sthala Perumaan.
Dhamodara Theertham is the Holy Theertham found in this sthalam.
The Sthala Puranam says Parvati Devi reborn as "Kathyayani" and married Shiva Perumaan in this sthalam. The Maapillai (Groom) Kolam of Shiva Perumaan can be found in this sthalam.
The Sthala Puranam also says that Sri Vishnu offered His eyes Netra Eyes (Thaamarai Kannan) as one of the alternative for the Lotus Flower.
When Sambandar and Thirunavukarasar visited this Sthalam, there was a severe drought all around. They prayed to Lord Shiva and Perumaan gave them Padikkasu (Gold Coin) one each every day to both of them. Sambandar gets Padikkasu at the Pedam in front of Maha Mandapam and Navukarasar in the Pedam in Merkku (west) Pragharam. Using these gold coin, they offered food to the all the village people.
The Annual Brahmotsavam is done during the month of Chitthirai. Other than this, Arudra Dharisanam, Kartikai Deepam, Skanda Sashti, Sivaratri, Aadi Pooram, Aavani Moolam and Navaratri utsavams are also done in a grand manner.
